Well known among foreigners, Makizushi is also known as the California Roll. Makizushi is made by spreading sushi rice on top of a sheet of nori (dried seaweed) which is then placed on top of a bamboo mat known as makisu. Next, fish, seafood, avocado and just about anything is placed on top of the rice and then the entire thing is rolled up tightly. The roll is then cut up into small pieces and served.
